Anthropocene, noun
Refers to the geological era, succeeding the Holocene, during which the impact of human activity becomes preponderant on the evolution of the terrestrial ecosystem, ahead of all the other natural factors predominant until then.
LITH comes back with his new opus “Anthropocene”, approaching a recurring theme in the project’s work, that of the destructive action of humanity against the biosphere.
Nearly fifteen years after the publication of the album Gaïa (Brume Records, 2006), which expressed a notion of hope despite an alarming observation of degradation of our environment and forms of life that inhabit it, “Anthropocene” this time comes with a dark and defeatist look at the future of the world as we know it. The brutal changes in climate in recent years, sterilization of soils and seas, mass extinctions of living species, significant modification of ecosystems ... reinforce the veracity of this recent concept: we are in the Anthropocene era.
Appalled by humanity's stubborn refusal to react actively, to limit our footprint and even accept the reality of its harmful impact, LITH exposes throughout the eight pieces of the album a multitude of concepts gathered under the “Anthropocene” neologism. The tracks are linked around a fusion of industrial music with heavy, distorted and
syncopated rhythms, urban music with bass music accents, enhanced by tribal percussions, squeaky bass and ethereal or throbbing electronic strings. This is a new evolution of LITH which has always been able to create a hybrid and contemporary music, at the borders of radically different styles.
After the eponymous opening title “Anthropocene”, tribal and throbbing, comes “Torn Ground” as an evocation of mining, with sustained rhythms and humming bass, then follows “The Limits to Growth”, which takes up the theme of the “Meadows Report”, to the apocalyptic predictions of the consequences of our unbridled and disastrous consumption. “Collapse”, mixing saturated choirs, sub-basses and syncopated urban breaks, is a vision of anticipation of a world which could not have taken a different way than the one we are taking today and which seems to lead us towards a
unenviable fate …
It was after the immense fires of the Amazon rain forest that the song “Amazon Ashes” was composed, a logical
continuation to the song “Amazon” present on the album Gaïa, this time the music becomes less ethereal and plunges the listener in a tribal and dark universe.
The song “Sixth Extinction”, or sixth mass extinction, with a heavy and melancholy musical theme, is inspired by the consequences of human activities on living beings, a result as catastrophic as the various extinctions of living species during previous terrestrial cataclysms.
The evocation of the controversial theory of an Earth ecosystem as a physiological system is used as an allegory in the title “Gaia Hypothesis”, expressing the interdependence of species and the Earth’s sphere through an alliance of muted rhythms, tribal and dub.
“Ruins” as its name indicates closes the album on a pessimistic vision of Anthropocene, a universe of ruins represented by fragile and trembling synthetic strings, saturated, slow and creeping rhythms...

Less glitchy that previous releases, imminent skews more complex experimentation on mythrality. This 3-track "EP" is very atmospheric with insidious tones, but serene and surreal in its tone. DAS VILLAIN
