"Frost giants, yetis and wendigos, those legendary monsters of the frozen north, exist in legends eternally hungering, fixed firmly in their powers, passions and thirsts. But the sonic incarnation of these creatures, in the music of Snowbeasts, is as organic and evolving as it is cold and foreboding. For their latest album “Energy,” out now on M-tronic, they’ve evolved into a more powerful form than previously heard. Their music remains unique and instantly recognizable with its throbbing, driving beats, synthesized dread and ethereal spirit powerfully crafted by Raab Codec and Elizabeth Virosa. Added to the mix on “Energy” are new sounds and combinations, such as the haunting chanted lyrics of the song “At Least I Have My Heart.” “The Storm Inside,” “Entity,” and “I’m Awake Now” each invoke a peculiar sonic ritual while breaking new ground in the deft use of modular and analog synthesis and a more pronounced element of drum machines giving each track a heavy, martial beat suitable for dancefloor or seance. This is a dark, heavy music for dark, heavy times. And while the world we live in can sometimes feel oppressive and inescapable, thank the ancestors the music of Snowbeasts exists to show not a way out but a way through it all."

One of those interesting industrial albums that sits somewhere between the more freewheeling and open-ended surrealism of old school experimental industrial, and the latter developed, more unapologetically body-rocking strains of EBM and gothic dancefloor anthems.
